💖 My Health My Data (HB 1155/SB 5351) is a health data privacy bill filed at the request of WA’s Attorney General, by the bill’s primary sponsors Representative Vandana Slatter and Senator Manka Dhingra.
➡️This is the Original Bill: HB 1155
➡️This is the Substitute Bill (that means it’s been amended, or changed) by Representative Hansen that was voted out of House Civil Rights & Judiciary: Substitute HB1155
💖And at long last, 🎉 here is our organizing story on reproductive justice x data privacy, and our long-promised (sorry it took a while!)
Analysis of Changes in House Substitute Bill 1155 My Health My Data
authored by WA People’s Privacy founder Maya Morales
The goal of this sub bill analysis is to help folks understand each of the bill amendments within the context of both reproductive justice and broader data privacy laws and harms, including the over-arching issue of commercial data surveillance enabled by lax commercial data privacy practices and people’s lack of extremely strong data protections that allow us to stop companies from collecting, sharing, and selling our data. The document includes a few comparison charts, some example stories to help folks imagine how a few of the harms might play out on a few of the topics, and some informative links scattered throughout that are relevant to various key issues.
It’s long, but it has a table of contents (TOC)! So, you can skip around. Use the little square icon on the top left when the document opens up to access the side viewing pane, where you can see individual pages or a TOC. Clicking on a title in the TOC will pop you over to that section of the document. 🙂
For strategic reasons and due to time constraints, this document hasn’t been reviewed by data privacy peers at the time of posting. If we discover any glaring issues after more people have the chance to review it, we reserve the right to delete, fix it and replace! But, hopefully the many rounds of tweaking and editing its had will prove successful.
It’s been in process for weeks, but mainly due to limited time – so, no promises of perfection! Hopefully, it’s helpful!
